Blog Posting Assignment 2
I believe that the amount of information has definitely increased through social media but I don't believe that the quality of the information has increased. I feel that it has decreased because social media tools, such as the internet, allow basically anyone and everyone to post and spread information. It's not often that people have exact facts or details so when people are using social media tools to spread information it's not often accurate. I like the idea of social media tools allowing people to express their thoughts, share their experiences, and opinions, however it can cause confusion among people who are reading it because often enough when people read something on the internet they mistake the information for solid facts. I worked at a hospital for over a year and the doctor's that I worked for had a number one rule for their patients, and that was to NEVER look up information about their condition on the internet. They had this rule because there are so many false things posted by people who don't have the knowledge or education to accurately post this kind of information. There are inaccurate pictures posted, inaccurate statistics, so many things and facts altered by people using social medial tools to post information and news. I'm not saying that using social media tools to share information and news is a bad thing because it is a very fast and convenient way to access things and it has given people opportunities to be discovered as perhaps an author or a publisher; but because social media tools usually allow ANYONE to post information and news, I feel that the quality of the information isn't at an all time high. Overall, we should all get used to seeing false facts and news on the internet though because every time I turn around the internet has found a new way for people to post things to the public.
